This site uses the JMdict, JMnedict, and KANJIDIC2 files. These files are the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG), and are used in conformance with the Group's licence.

Acknowledgements
Hitomi Kobayashi-Prior, founder of Wee Joys Japanese Language (online Japanese tutor, MA Applied Linguistics), reviewed the kanji pages and recommended both the BIZ UDGothic font (for matching the shapes Japanese textbooks actually print) and the 日本語教育語彙表 (JEV) as the right way to rank compounds for learners. Most of the choices on this page that feel right to a Japanese reader can be traced back to her feedback.
Privacy
No cookies, no analytics, no third-party trackers, no embedded fonts from CDNs, no external service calls at runtime. Bookmarks live in your browser's localStorage and never leave your device. The server records standard access logs (IP, user agent, timestamp, path) as part of normal HTTP operation.
Accuracy
Linguistic reference data only. Errors in upstream sources propagate here. Don't rely on this site for medical, legal, or safety-critical purposes.
JLPT levels are unofficial. The Japan Foundation does not publish official vocabulary or kanji lists for the post-2010 JLPT (N1–N5). The levels displayed here come from the jlpt field of KANJIDIC2, which is a community-maintained estimate based on past papers and consensus. Treat them as informational, not authoritative.
